V. 1 contains books 1-16; v. 2 contains books 17-25. Note on second blank binder's leaf at the front of v. 1 states that v. 3, containing books 26-32, is in the British Museum, add. Mss. 15583.
In double columns; v. 1 has 57 lines per column; v. 2 has 48 lines per column. Leaves written on both sides.
Written in black ink in gothic hand, v. 1 by a single scribe, v. 2 by two or more scribes.
Large decorated initials and penwork at the beginning of each book in v. 1 in red and blue, and in v. 2, red, blue, and green. At top of pages, running heads in red and book numbers in red and blue. In text, chapter initials alternately in red or blue with penwork in the contrasting color; chapter numbers and titles in red; rubrication throughout.
Catchwords, v. 1, in the extreme lower right verso of every twelvth leaf, beginning with leaf [12v]. A few catchwords remain in v. 2, most of them appear to have been trimmed off.
In lower margin of leaf [1r] of both volumes: Phillipps Mss 8753. Note on first blank binder's leaf at the front of v. 1 states this was lot 766 in the Phillipps sale 17-20 May, 1897.
Letter dated Feb. 16, 1907, from S.C. Cockerell to C.H. St. J. Hornby pasted to inside front cover of v. 1. Bookplates of C.H. St. John Hornby and John Roland Abbey pasted to inside front covers of both volumes.
